Free audiobooks: explore classic recordings
An audiobook is a different way to explore a classic. The same title may have several recordings, with different readers, languages and total running times. Compare the source records before downloading a large audio file.
Start with the title
BookScout’s LibriVox integration searches audiobook titles. Try Pride and Prejudice and select Audiobook or Audio ZIP. Searching only an author’s name may find text editions in other catalogs without matching LibriVox’s title search.
If the LibriVox status is unavailable, its request failed. Retry later or open the catalog directly; this is different from a successful search with zero matches.
Listen online or download audio
Listen opens the LibriVox catalog page, where you can review recording details and listening options. Audio ZIP is shown only when the API supplies a ZIP link. That archive contains audio tracks, not the written ebook. Check its size on the source page before downloading on a limited mobile connection.
Compare recordings
Look at the language, readers, recording version and total running time listed by the source. A collaborative recording can have different readers across chapters, while a solo project may use one reader throughout. BookScout keeps different source records separate so that you can compare them rather than treating every matching title as the same edition.
Keep the text alongside the recording
If you want to read while listening, search the same title again and choose EPUB or Read online. Verify that the written edition and the recording use compatible text: translations, abridgments and chapter divisions may differ. The EPUB vs PDF guide helps you choose a reading format.
Rights and coverage
LibriVox describes its recordings as public domain in the USA. Check the source’s notice and local requirements when using them elsewhere. BookScout does not host or repackage the recordings, and its first-page search does not contain every recording in the catalog.
